Meet Emily Mayer. Emily has never lived abroad before but is not new to the travel scene. While in Peru, Emily will be planning and implementing public health workshops in the community. Emily is most excited to immerse herself into a new culture and give back to the community.
What motivated you to sign up for Venture with Impact?
"Everything Venture With Impact offers immediately intrigued me -- to be able to travel and live abroad, while volunteering at a local organization, while maintaining my career."
Have you ever lived abroad before? If not, what made you decide that now was the time to experience living abroad?
"I have never lived abroad before. It has always been on my list of goals to do, yet it kept passing me by for various reasons. I decided it was time to stop making excuses and just do it."
Did you have a remote position prior to joining Venture with Impact? If not, how were you able to convince your boss to let you join VWI?
"My current position is not a remote one, but every so often allows for remote work. I was pleasantly surprised when my company approved my request to work remotely from Peru for a month."
Have you done much international travel prior to VWI?
"A bit. Years ago, I traveled to Barcelona, Venice, Florence, and Rome. A couple of years ago, I went to Antibes, in south of France, then to Paris and Amsterdam. Just last summer, I traveled to Antigua in the West Indies."
What are you most excited about for your volunteer experience with VWI?
"I am very excited about being immersed in a new culture and to give back to the community that is allowing me call it home for a month."
You're a new addition to the crayon box, what color would you be and why?
"I would be a light Cyan Blue; something initially subtle, but vibrant with curiosity and adventure."
